  1. I constantly had it rammed down my throat (when I was a child) that I wasn’t British (my family hail from Eire) & living in Birmingham after the bombings (1974) was sheer hell (anyone with an Irish accent was a bomber & telling people you wasn’t Catholic didn’t assuage their hatred).
    As long as I can remember people have to have someone to hate, to make themselves feel better, when my parents were young it was the Germans, in my youth it was the Irish, today it’s Muslims, tomorrow, who knows…
