Social Media Campaign against Byteback for Workfare in Private Eye

This – “shows that such campaigns can work. And perhaps if enough stories like this get into the national press, even it’s just papers like the Eye, maybe more people will get involved and make things really difficult for the Tories.”

Exactly my thoughts Beast

Beastrabban\'s Weblog

This fortnight’s edition of Private Eye included a story about the Bristol computer firm, Byteback. Byteback recondition computers, and were a participant in the government’s workfare scheme. George Osborne even paid them a visit to express his approval. The Eye notes, however, that the firm has now backed away from using workfare unfree labour after a campaign against them for it on social media. The inestimable Johnny Void blogged about the same thing a few days ago, which I’ve reblogged, and congratulated everyone on their work campaigning against it.

So well done everyone, who was involved, and to Mr Void for covering in and promoting it. It shows that such campaigns can work. And perhaps if enough stories like this get into the national press, even it’s just papers like the Eye, maybe more people will get involved and make things really difficult for the Tories.
