Am I alone in wondering just WHAT the Tories are thinking of? They seem to be intent on self-destruction; their Economic & Welfare Policies are isolating more and more people on a daily basis, their destruction of the NHS is infuriating people, their Education Polices are causing academics to scream, and so on. Outside of the UK their approaches are being criticised by Europe & the USA also.
I like many others have regularly questioned the mind set of the Coalition Cabinet but seriously, just WHAT do they think they will achieve by their actions?
I can’t help wonder if this particular set of Millionaire Politicians have deliberately set out to destroy the post WWII improvements to the standard of living for most UK citizens, whilst whilst feathering their own nests. Their rationale, to ensure they achieve their perception of the true Status Quo – The Ruling Classes return to their position of total authority and the rest of us exist merely to serve.
I really don’t see any other reason for a Government to commit what seems to be Political Suicide unless, it is to decimate the Welfare State and the last bastion of equality the NHS, and to return education to a situation where our children are taught their place??
Agree totally with this good blog. I think the Tories have started their push for total self destruction in the next General Election.

I think that after 2008, there was a realisation that people’s anger with the banks would eventually spill over into the whole concept of ‘free markets’ and liberalisation of services. The Washington consensus looked doomed so there was nothing to lose in making a whole-sale attempt to push through and rapidly dismantle public services (and across the EU), reduce wages, lock in long-term contracts/sell all national assets to the corporations. Furthermore, stitching up the incoming next government with chaos and breakdown makes it more likely that the contracts etc can’t easily be undone. This is an economy-wrecking government acting on behalf of the City of London and the 0.14%. We are heading for neofeudalism and debt-serfdom.. meanwhile the LP seems to think this is just politics as usual!

An ideological neurosis such as global captialism has no end game as such. Being an irrational need, the end is consumed in the process of feeding the monster, whether its called ‘the markets’, or ‘ecomonic growth’ of whatever. The Tories’ beliefs are firmly embedded in metaphors which are dangerously outdated and completely fail to notice, never mind address, the questions of our age; namely, how do we transform into an environmentally and socially sustainable society?, and, what is everyone supposed to do to contribute (or, in other words, how is EVERYONE included in this transformation) ?
